About Round Table

About Round Table

Round Table is all about having fun with a group of friends while at the same time trying to help the local community.

Round Table started with just one man's idea. Louis Marchesi was a member of Rotary in Norwich but had the brainwave of starting a new organisation for young men between the ages of 18-45.

Round Table was born with the motto 'Adopt, Adapt, Improve' and from small beginnings of one club in Norwich, Louis' dream has become a reality,

The first Round Table was formed in Norwich, England in 1927. The founder, Louis Marchesi, was a young member of Norwich Rotary Club who felt a need existed for a club where the young business men of the town could gather on a regular basis. At their meetings they could exchange ideas, learn from the experiences of their colleagues and play a collective part in the civic life of Norwich. Within a year of inception the membership of this Round Table had grown to 85 and interest was being shown in establishing Round Tables elsewhere. From a very early stage it was agreed that Round Table would be a non-religious, non-political club and this has continued to this day.

The focal point of Round Table is its regular meetings. Normally twice a month, usually in the evening and sometimes with a meal.

The regular meeting is the forum for speakers and many other forms of activity and entertainment.  This can vary from a meeting with a guest speaker, talking many varied subjects to a meeting in a hot air balloon, or it may be just a meal and include discussions on forthcoming social and service projects.  Have a look at the Events Diary and the individual Round Table pages to see what is on around the country.

Visitors and potential members will always be made particularly welcome as Round Table provides an ideal opportunity to establish new friendships.

Fun, friendship and trying something new and exciting, that's what Round Table is all about.

From sports to arts and nights out at restaurants to family social events, Round Table prides itself on giving its members the chance to embrace life to the full. Its members pride themselves on their sense of belonging to something rather special, that is not so easy to find these days.

There are many benefits to becoming a member of Round Table. Taking part in debate and organising functions and events will build leadership skills, give you public speaking abilities and help you enhance your personal strengths like no other organisation.

Forget About Work for a While - Come and Have some Fun.

But perhaps more importantly it is about enjoying a wide and more varied social life and making friends.
Everything you do in Round Table is for enjoyment, it is just up to you to decide to what extent.

A key benefit of belonging to Round Table is getting together with people from other walks of life to yours. Currently Round Table exists in more than 65 countries around the world with a total membership of around 40,000, providing limitless opportunities for you to travel and change your perspective on life.

Our latest international gathering was in Pafos, Cyprus where members of Round Table in countries from all over the world gathered to celebrate 80 years of fellowship and community service. Over 500 delegates from 45 countries took part in this event were they enjoyed Cypriot hospitality and made new friends that will last a life time.
